5:45 PM - 7:15 PMCBI Social HallTu B'shvat Celebration and Community Shabbat Dinner
How extraordinary it is that we have a whole day on our calendar that is dedicated to trees, right in the middle of this Hebrew month of Sh’vat, on a full moon, a festival dedicated to re-connecting to the earth, to creation, and to our purpose of protecting the garden that sustains us. One could argue that all of the months on our calendar and even all of our holidays are gateways to reconnect with the earth-based roots of our tradition– our agricultural and seasonal cycles and celestial rhythms. But it is especially so this Hebrew month of Sh’vat.
This year, we will celebrate Tu B’shvat a few days early on Friday night, January 30th, beginning with a special culinary seder that begins at 5:45 PM sharp, celebrating the birthday of the trees and the diversity of fruits and nuts they provide. This 15-minute ceremony will be the most colorful (and flavorful) holiday of the year, marked with fruits from the earth’s bounty, stories and songs. It will precede our community dinner which follows immediately after this special ceremony.
After dinner, we will continue with Shabbat services beginning at 7:15 PM and an expanded oneg to follow which continues to celebrate the trees and their giving nature.
The cost is $18 for adults and $10 for military & children.
Online registration ends the evening before the dinner. If online registration is closed please call the office for reservations, at 831-624-2015.
