Cantor Alisa will take our Best Years group to Earthbound Farms this month for a visit with co-founder Myra Goodman who will speak about the humble beginnings of her and husband Drew’s very successful company, as well as some of her personal family story. Participants will be treated to lunch following our visit with Myra, thanks to CBI’s special Best Years fund. Myra Goodman is the co-founder of the highly successful food company Earthbound Farm Organic, with products sold in stores, worldwide, and it all started on a small farm in Carmel Valley. It was supposed to be a short stopover while she prepared to apply to graduate school but she and her husband, Drew, both from New York City, fell in love with living on the farm, soon growing greens for local chefs as well as for themselves. To save time, they started washing and bagging salad in individual zip-lock bags, first innovating the idea of the pre-washed salad in a bag, never guessing that packaged organic salads would eventually become a multi-billion-dollar industry. Myra has authored many books including Quest for Eternal Sunshine: A Holocaust Survivor’s Journey from Darkness to Light, which she co-authored with her father, Mendek Rubin, of blessed memory.
