CBI presents its second free Speaker Series event over Zoom on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 10:30 – 11:30 am. Riva Gambert, director of the East Bay International Jewish Film Festival and program director of the Contra Costa JCC's Under One Tent program, presents "Will the Real Ari Ben-Canaan Please Stand Up?" The image of Paul Newman standing at the helm of the Exodus is iconic, but Ari Ben-Canaan was a fictional character created by Leon Uris just a few years before the film's release in 1960. Riva will share the real story of the leader of the Exodus 1947 and the events that gave rise to the ship's fateful voyage. (Regretfully, we had to cancel our original talk on the legacy of Bei Mir Bistu Shein.)
